Pope Francis condemns abduction of Zamfara schoolgirls

Roman Catholic head, Pope Francis has condemned the recent abduction of over 300 schoolgirls by bandits in Zamfara State, describing the action as a “vile”.

The pope in his weekly Sunday Angelus address to the Catholic faithful on Saint Peter’s Square in the Vatican said, “I join the bishops of Nigeria in condemning this vile abduction of 317 young girls. Let us pray for these girls, so that they may return home quickly.”

FirstNews had reported that over 300 schoolgirls of Government Girls Junior Secondary School in Jangebe, Talata Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara State got kidnapped in the early hours of Friday.

On Sunday reports claimed that they had been released, it later turned out to be false as the state government said the victims are still in the bandits’ coven.
