Ibori: We are expecting another £100m soon -FG

Another £100m (N527bn), allegedly stolen by a former Governor of Delta State, James Ibori and associates is still being expected to be returned to Nigeria from the United Kingdom, the Federal Government has said.

This was disclosed by the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubarkar Malami, on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today’ on Tuesday.

He also revealed that the government would also be expecting $100m traced to the late Head of State, Gen Sani Abacha.

“As it is we have succeeded in recovering £4.2m from the UK. We are still pursuing other assets even as it relates to the Ibori assets.

“The quantum of the amount involved was within the region of over £100m (N2.2bn) and it is out of it that we have succeeded in recovering a fraction of £4.2m and we are still pursuing an additional sum within the region of £100m (N527bn) and that will be a function of conviction and subsequent recovery process”, he said.

Citing reasons why the recovered funds will not be remitted to Delta State, Malami said the crime that was committed was a federal crime.

He also said one of the conditions that led to the repatriation of the money was that it must be used for the Federal Projects which include the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, the Abuja-Kano rail and the Second Niger Bridge.

The Federal Government earlier, have announced entering into a Memorandum of Understanding with the UK government for the return to Nigeria £4.2m (N2.2bn) also recovered from Ibori and relatives.
