Gunmen attack, raze police station in Imo

Unknown gunmen, on Saturday, burnt down a police station in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.

Residents told FirstNews that the armed men stormed the police station and overpowered officers on duty and also set free some suspects in the cell.

Lately, police stations and personnel in the Southern part of the country have become targets of attacks by unknown gunmen and hoodlums, especially in the past two weeks.

Police in Anambra State, on Friday, foiled an attack on Ekwulobia Police Station in Aguata Local Government Area of the state.

But hours later, a bus conveying suspects to the court, still in Ekwulobia was attacked while a prison official was shot dead and the suspects were freed.

Twenty-four hours before that incident, policemen and naval officers were killed in different locations across the state.

An armed gang gunned down three policemen at Neni junction in Anaocha LGA of the state, while their vehicle was set ablaze.

Three Naval officers were shot dead at Awkuzu, in Oyi LGA.
