President Muhammadu Buhari and former military head of state, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, are currently meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Buhari’s Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, said his principal received Abdulsalami on Friday afternoon.
Ahmad tweeted, “President @MBuhari receives in audience former Head of State Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar (rtd.) at the State House, Abuja.”
Although the presidential aide did not disclose the purpose of the meeting, it was gathered that it might be connected to the security challenges confronting the country lately.
Buhari and Abdulsalami might also have deliberated on the rising calls for secession by various groups in the country.
Abdulsalami, who is the Chairman of the National Peace Committee, was Nigeria’s Head of State between June 1998 and May 1999 when he handed over power to a democratically elected President in the person of Olusegun Obasanjo, thereby, heralding Nigeria’s Fourth Republic and return to democracy after years of despotic military reign.
