Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has imposed a dusk to dawn curfew in Effium community in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of the state to stop further killings and destruction of properties in the area.
The governor also approved the deployment of additional 600 soldiers to restore peace in Effium community.
Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Uchenna Orji, disclosed this to journalists on Wednesday.
Orji said that the decision was taken at the end of the state executive council meeting.
This came barely 48 hours after the governor visited the area to appeal to the two warring clans (Ezza and Effium).
It was learnt that inspite of the peace initiative and signing of peace pact by stakeholders of both clans, killings and destruction of properties still persist in the area.
The commissioner said, “Today, EXCO resolved to place dusk to dawn curfew in Effium with effect from today the 31 March 2021.
“EXCO also commended the state government for providing 600 additional soldiers to the area.
“Also, in Effium and Ezza crisis, exco noted the efforts of the state government in providing additional two mobile police units in the area.
“Again, Exco frowned at the activities of all those elected and appointed public office holders from the area which the Exco felt were largely responsible in the crisis.”
Earlier on Wednesday, Association of Ebonyi State Indigenes in the Diaspora urged the Federal Government to immediately declare a state of emergency in the state to stop the ongoing killings of defenceless citizens in the Effium community.
