For the umpteenth time, Bayelsa State Government has insisted that it will not tolerate roads construction done without adhering to job standards and specifications.
The government also stressed the need for the various contractors to be on top of their jobs, noting that what is essential is the impact the road projects will bring to bear on the people of the state.
The Chairman of the Bayelsa Directorate for Project Monitoring and Evaluation, Mr Ebiye Tarabina, expressed the government’s position after inspecting some of the ongoing projects under construction in the state.
Tarabina urged the ministry engineers to ensure that every site instruction issued to contractors were complied with, saying the directorate would ensure compliance by contractors.
He, however, expressed satisfaction with the quality and the extent of work done by the contractors handling the various projects in the state.
The chairman inspected the Egbedi road projects, Elebele Bridge, AIT-Igbogene road and Igbogene-Tombia road project.
Tarabina commended the China Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC), the company handling the Igbogene-Tombia road project for the quality of work done so far.
He added that CCECC had demonstrated a very high sense of commitment and capability on the construction job.
He, however, urged the contractor to speed up with the pace of work to meet deadlines as the rainy season is underway.
Meanwhile, about two kilometres of sand-filling, 40 per cent cement/sand stabilisation, as well as the construction of culverts, have been achieved on the road by the contractors.
The Site Manager of CCECC, Henry Zhang, assured the government that the company would do everything within its power to ensure timely completion of the project.
The project monitoring boss also lauded the company handling the Egbedi road project, PAACIE Construction Limited for the pace and quality of work.
He, however, urged the contractor to put in more effort to ensure speedy completion of the project.
The General manager of the company, Sarkis Abichmount, who pledge completion of the project in record time said about 1,300 metres of the road has been sand-filled and more will be achieved in a few days’ time.
The chairman was accompanied by heads of department, engineers, journalists and support staff of the directorate.
