Buhari departs Abuja for four-day visit to France

President Muhammadu Buhari has departed Abuja for a four-Day visit to Paris, France.

This was announced by the President’s spokesman, Femi Adesina, on Sunday.

“President Buhari departs Abuja for Paris, France ahead of African Finance Summit on 16th May 2021,” Adesina stated in a statement.

FirstNews reported that the Presidency had earlier on Saturday night, in a statement by Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, disclosed that Buhari would embark on a four-day official visit to attend African Finance Summit, “which will be focused on reviewing African economy, following shocks from Coronavirus pandemic, and getting relief, especially from increased debt burden on countries.”

Shehu had said that “The Summit, to be hosted by President Emmanuel Macron, will draw major stakeholders in the global finance institutions and some Heads of Government, who will, collectively, discuss external funding and debt treatment for Africa, and private sector reforms.”

He added that Buhari would, during the visit, meet with the French President to discuss growing security threats in Sahel and Lake Chad region, political relations, economic ties, climate change and partnership in buoying the health sector, particularly in checking spread of Covid-19, with more research and vaccines.
