MOSIEND urges FG to implement 2014 Confab report

ONYEDI GABRIEL, Port Harcourt

Movement for the Survival of Izon Ethnic Nationality in the Niger Delta have appealed to the Federal Government to immediately implement the recommendations of the 2014 Constitutional Conference report.

MOSIEND also asked the federal government to bestow national honour on late Niger Delta hero, Major Isaac Jasper Adaka Boro, for championing the campaign for equal rights for minority people.

The group’s National President, Kennedy West, who spoke in Port Harcourt, during a town hall meeting organised by MOSIEND to commemorate the 202 Boro Day celebration, said there was no need for fresh national dialogue.

West insisted it would be better to implement the recommendations of the 2014 conference than to begin another endless amendment of the constitution.

He said: “We believe in Nigeria that is tailored to protect the dignity of every Nigerian, irrespective of their tribe or religious inclination.

“We urge the federal government to commence the implementation of the recommendations of the 2014 Constitutional Conference and re-enact the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria rather than embarking on endless Constitution amendment.”

West said many ethnic nationalities that condemned Boro’s campaign for minority liberation had resorted to agitating for minority rights.

West said: “Many ethnic nationalities who felt that as at then, Isaac Boro was overzealous, now awake to the reality and neck-deep in the call for justice for the minority people.

“Isaac Boro’s philosophy speaks volume as he saw the dangers of the suppression of the minority. We ask that a national honour be conferred on Major Isaac Jasper Adaka Boro.”
