Breaking : Buhari’s govt bans Twitter operation in Nigeria

Operation of the social media giant, Twitter has been banned in Nigeria by the Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government.

This followed an announcement on Friday by the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, in a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Segun Adeyemi.

The statement titled, ‘FG Suspends Twitter’s Operations in Nigeria’, read: “The Federal Government has suspended, indefinitely, the operations of the microblogging and social networking service, Twitter, in Nigeria.”

Mohammed cited alleged persistent use of the platform for activities that are capable of undermining Nigeria’s corporate existence, for the government action.

FirstNews had reported that Twitter deleted President Buhari’s message which threatened the Igbo tribe of the country.
