Sowore’s #RevolutionNow members, #BuhariMustGo protesters block Abuja airport road

…make bonfires

Members of the Omoyele Sowore-led #RevolutionNow and#BuhariMustGo protesters, on Monday, blocked the Umaru Yar’Adua Way, along the highway leading to the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in the Federal Capital Territory.

The protesting youths, also seen in a video posted on Twitter by Omoyele Sowore, convener of #RevolutionNow, on Twitter, were carrying placards with various inscriptions and chanting “Buhari must go”.

The protesters set bonfires on the ever-busy road with disused vehicle tyres, causing traffic gridlock and leaving motorists stranded.

Workers resident in Lugbe, Kuje, and other areas along the Airport road travelling to the city centre to resume work after the weekend were mostly affected by the protesters’ action.

Sowore wrote in a post accompanying the video: “#BuhariMustGo protest[ers] on the highway to the airport in Abuja this morning! No Rest for the wicked! #RevolutionNow.”

Buhari had recently called for a nationwide protests aimed at forcing President Muhammadu Buhari to resign on the June 12 Democracy Day.

Recall that in August 2020, Sowore and his ally, Olawale Bakare, were arrested for planning a nationwide protest.

They were both arrested by operatives of the Department of State Services and detained for about 100 days after which they were arraigned at a Federal High Court in Abuja.

They were later released but the court confined Sowore to Abuja as part of his bail condition.
