Troops of ‘Operation Safe Haven’ (OPSH) have repelled an attack launched on Gidan Zaki town in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State by gunmen.
This was revealed by the state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan, in a statement issued in Kaduna on Sunday.
According to him, the attack would have led to loss of lives but for the tremendous efforts of the troops that repelled the attackers.
The commissioner added that the bandits also invaded farmlands in the village and destroyed crops, using cutlasses.
“The bandits went on to vandalise the home of a resident of the village.
“They also damaged a nearby vehicle, before storming a telephone charging shop belonging to another person, carting away telephones and chargers,” he said.
“One resident of the village was injured by a bullet during sporadic shooting by the bandits. She was evacuated to a nearby medical facility for treatment”, he added.
The commissioner added that the state Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, who was perturbed by the incident, extended his appreciation to the troops.
Aruwan said investigations into the incident were in progress.
Meanwhile, the Kaduna State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Mohammed Jalige, confirmed the incident, saying that no life was lost.
