Our region should produce Buhari’s successor in 2023, Southern govs insist

…urge security agencies to seek permission before operations in their states

Governors of the Southern states, on Monday, insisted that the next President of the country should come from their region.

They also urged the various security agencies to seek permission from the governor of a particular state they plan any operation for before embarking on such an action.

The governors took the position during their meeting in held in Lagos.

They agreed that President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor must come from the Southern region.

The Southern Governors also insisted that any law enforcement agency planning to carry out an operation in any of the states in the South must take permission from the governor of that particular state, who is the chief security officer of the state.

Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, who read their communique at the end of their closed door meeting, however, kept mum on the recent arrest of the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, and the DSS attack on the Ibadan residence of the Yoruba Nation Promoter, Chief Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho.

Some of the governors present at the meeting are Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo; Nyesom Wike of Rivers; Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun; Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu, and Philip Shaibu, deputy governor of Edo, who is representing Godwin Obaseki, governor of the state.

Others are Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia; Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom; Diri Duoye of Bayelsa; Willie Obiano of Anambra; Ben Ayade of Cross Rivers; Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta; David Umahi of Ebonyi; Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti; Hope Uzodimma of Imo; Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, and Oluwaseyi Makinde of Oyo.
