Predictably, APC sweeps Lagos, Ogun council polls

As anticipated, ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) swept all the local government elections conducted in Lagos and Ogun states respectively, on Saturday.

Opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) only trailed abysimally, according to results trickling in from the State Independent Electoral Commissions of the respective states.

For instance in Ogun State, Mr. Olusegun Ogunleye of the APC has been declared winner of the chairmanship election in Ikenne Local Government.

He polled 8, 238 votes to defeat Adeleke Adesanya of the PDP, who scored 731.

Also in Ijebu-Ode local council, Mr. Babatunde Emilola, also known as Gazal, of the APC was declared winner in the chairmanship contest.

He polled 6,178 votes to defeat Oluwadurotimi OKenla of the PDP, who scored I,955 votes.

In Lagos, one of the early results received by showed APC sweeping the votes in Iba LCDA, Ward E, polling unit. It stated in the councillorship category, APC 93, APGA 1, and PDP 11; while chairmanship recorded APC 98, APGA 0, and PDP 3, voiding 4.

It was also gathered that the youngest council chairman, on the APC platform in Coker-Aguda LCDA, emerged winner with an emphatic result.

Same reports of APC winning filtered in from such councils as Oriade, Oshodi, Apapa, Ono, Amuwo-Odofin, Surulere, Agege, Alimosho, Ikeja, Ikoyi, Ajeromi-Ifelodun, Ikorodu, Epe, Ipaja Mosan -Okunola, riverine areas in Badagry, among others.

However, there was low turn out of voters in a contest with a total of 6,570,291 registered voters across 13,323 polling units in 20 LGAs and 37 LCDAs.

On the final list of candidates for the election according to LASIEC on the eve of exercise, a total of 133 candidates would be contesting for the office of the Chairman with 131 Vice Chairmanship candidates.

Of the 133 candidates for the office for the Chairman, 16 were women and of the 131 Vice Chairman candidates, 106 were also women, indicating that the contesting parties fielded more women for the office of the Vice-Chairman.
