Police, Bayelsa youths arrest suspected armed robber, recover pistol

ODAHIEKWU OGUNDE, Yenagoa

Police operatives in Bayelsa State have arrested a 23-year-old suspected armed robber, identified as Merit Salvation, in Yenagoa, the state capital.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Bayelsa State Command, Mr Asinim Butswat, made this known on Monday.

Butswat, a Superintendent of Police, said the arrest was carried out by operatives of Azikoro Division in collaboration with youth leaders and vigilante from Akaba community, a suburb of Yenagoa.

He said the police recovered from the suspect a locally-made pistol and three 9mm ammunition. 

Butswat said: “On 23rd August, 2021, while on patrol at Akaba community at about 0230 hours, police operatives arrested the suspect, one Merit Salvation, male, aged 23, in possession of a locally-made pistol and three .9mm ammunition. 

“The suspect is cooperating with the police in its investigation. 

“The Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, Echeng E. Echeng, advises residents to always volunteer useful information that will assist the police in fishing out criminals in the state.”
