Bimodal Voters Authentication System (BVAS) has been referred to as a vaccine that deals with election rigging and manipulation by Mike Iginni.
Iginni is the Independent National Electoral Commissioner in Akwa Ibom State.
BVAS was deployed by INEC in the November 6, Anambra State governorship election.
The device combines fingerprint and facial recognition for the verification of voters. It is meant to replace the Smart Card Readers which INEC had been using in past elections.
Amid the hitches experience with BVAS during the Anambra poll, Iginni applauded the device, refuting claims that 70 per cent of the machine failed to function effectively.
He made this argument during an interview on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Tuesday.
Iginni said, “Take my words very seriously. What you are talking about BVAS (is not correct). We had recorded 88.5 percent of uploaded results.
“If you look at all the innovations that we have put in place, the BVAS is the latest electoral sheriff in town. It has been described as a vaccine to deal with election rigging and manipulation in our country.”
According to him, Nigerians should be rest assured that INEC remains committed to election service delivery.
