DSS replies FAAN: ‘No DSS official slapped any airport worker’

Department of State Services has denied claim by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria that its official slapped an airport worker.

DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, who denied the allegation, said the DSS promotes cordial relations with other agencies, and placed premium on good conduct among its operatives.

He said, “This is not true. DSS staff are well mannered and couldn’t have slapped or fought a personnel of an agency he is working with.

“The service and the DG, DSS, place premium on robust inter-agency relations needed to achieve positive outcomes in the workplace.”

FAAN had alleged that head of the DSS at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport in Abuja, Safiyanu Abba, stopped an aviation officer from searching a visitor who set off a metal detector.

In a tweet on Wednesday, the aviation agency added that during the incident, which took place on July 17, Abba slapped the aviation security officer.

FAAN’s tweet had read, “We note with dismay that Safiyanu Abba, the head of DSS at NAIA, deliberately obstructed airport security process, and slapped an aviation security officer, who was performing his duty.”
