Following the prolonged tension and disagreement that ensued during an election of the Kaduna State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) held on December 18, last year, a breeze of peace has, at last, blown.

A former NUJ chairman, Comrade Adamu Yusuf, moved in to reconcile the aggrieved members of the union in Kaduna and chart a way forward for peaceful co-existance.

The former chairman who was in the Kaduna NUJ Secretariat at the weekend, said, “We have faced each other in court but now peace is needed; we must come together and as one.

“I have no other place than NUJ. Anything outside peace, I won’t be part of it. I identify with Asma’u-led Exco, my loyalty lies in them. The Majority belongs here and I have full confidence in the union.

Adamu who promised to head the reconciliation process, said “as it is now, I need one strong, indivisible NUJ. All camps must desist from provocative comments and put all differences away in the interest of the union.”

Responding, the Kaduna Council Chairman, Hajiya Asma’u Yawo Halilu, appreciated the former NUJ boss for the steps taken towards harmonising the union.

Asma’u who said he was committed to the peace process, called on all to support the former chairman to succeed in the initiative.

Also speaking at the reconciliation meeting, the former Vice Chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Sabiyu, said, “There’s light at the end of the day. I have been in this union for 27 years. I studied peace up to Master’s level. I started from Kaduna when I was young and now back in Kaduna in old age; and I can’t watch when there is no harmony.”
