The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has got court permission to still keep the arrested suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, DCP Abba Kyari in detention for another 14 days.
The permission was granted to the NDLEA on Tuesday by a Federal High Court in Abuja presided over by Justice, Zainab Abubakar.
The agency had in an ex-parte application to the court, through its counsel, Mr Mike Kassa, requested to be allowed to still keep Kyari in its custody to enable it to complete its investigation into the hard drug trafficking allegations against the suspended police DCP.
Justice Abubakar, granting the prayer in a short ruling, however, ordered that the 14 days for which Kayri should still remain in detention should start counting from February 22.
The NDLEA had, in the application, pleaded for more time to detain Kyari on the ground that the hard drug trafficking allegations against the suspect were complex and may require the agency travelling outside the shore of the country to make some clarifications.
The agency said that extending the suspect’s detention in its custody would be in the interest of justice and allow for a thorough and diligent investigation.
