Pyrates’ Confraternity underscores importance of education


…celebrates with Ogun students on International Day of Education

National Association of Seadogs, popularly known as the Pyrates’ Confraternity, has underscored the importance of quality education for the younger generation.

NAS President of the Katamaran Deck, Ijebu-Ode/Remo chapter, Fagbounka Olumide, stated this during the celebration of the International Day of Education with students of Bailey Bedrock College in Ijebu Ode recently.

The event was organised by the Katamaran Deck, Ijebu Ode / Remo Chapter in conjunction with the NAS Pentagon Deck ,Washington DC, Maryland and Virginia, U.S.A.

Speaking on the occasion, Fagbounka stressed the importance of education to the development of the individual and society.

He advised the younger ones to ensure they face their studies and demonstrate seriousness, urging parents and teachers not take the education for granted.

Guest Speaker of the day, Adeyoola Kayode, who is also a member of NAS, in his lecture, listed and explained 20 reasons why education is important. He listed such reasons to include provision of stability, financial security, allowing self- dependence and making your dreams come true for more successful careers.

He further gave the students the analysis of the key points, which include provision of enabling environment (safer world), confidence, a part of society and economic growth on a national scale.

He added that education protects because an educated person has a better understanding and studying hard leads to a personal growth.

The key speaker further noted that education would enable one to discover himself and create peaceful environment, gets you informed, enables you to develop logical reasoning and stay focused as well as improve your creativity.

He listed personalities education had brought to higher levels to include Friedrick Froebel; Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka ( Founder of the Association); late Ogoni rights activist, Ken Saro Wiwa; late legal luminary, Chief Gani Fawehinmi; Lola Omolola; late Woman activist, Mrs Funmilayo Ransome Kuti; Aisha Yesufu ( Bring back our Girls) and others.

NAS is a humanitarian organisation founded in 1952 at the University of Ibadan. It stands for charity, equity , social justice and reaches out to Society.

Every January 24th is the International Day of Education.

The senior prefect of the Bailey Bedrock College Ijebu Ode,Awosanya Favour, gave the vote of thanks.

The members of the Association that graced the occasion included Fagbunka Olumide( President), Adeyoola Kayode (Speaker), Osho Adeseye, Adegbedan Oluwabukola, Ashiru Abidemi, Kassim Kayode Awosanya Adesina and Majekodunmi Niniola, among others.
