Finally, Abuja Chief Imam who criticised Buhari loses job

Sheikh Khalid, the suspended Chief Imam of an Abuja mosque, who criticised President Mohammadu Buhari during last Friday’s j’umat service sermon, has, at last, been sacked.

Senator Muhammadu Dansadau, Chairman of the Mosque Committee was suspended, said Khalid was shown the exit door for not being remorseful.

The Abuja Imam, however, was quoted as saying that he would rather turn to a menial jobber than live in opulence and stop saying the truth.

Senator Dansadau had first announced the suspension of Sheikh Nuru Khalid before sacking the cleric, widely known as Digital Imam.

Dansadau issued the fresh order in his capacity as the Chairman of Mosque Committee at the Apo Legislative Quarters in Abuja.

In a letter he issued on Monday, Dansadau said the decision to expel Khalid became inevitable because he failed to show remorse for the scathing statements he said against President Buhari and the state of the nation.

Dansadau quoted Sheikh Nuru Khalid as saying he stood by all that he said.

“You can see why we cannot sit with him over the matter.

“He cannot lead us in prayers. The religious tenet agrees if you cannot be led in prayers by someone, you can change the Mosque where you worship.

“A Mosque is a place of worship, not an arena to criticise government,” Dansadau said in an interview with BBC, Haisa service.
