Gunmen kidnapped the wife of a staff member of Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic and their three children when they invaded Shika village in Giwa Local government Area of Kaduna State.
A member of the vigilance group in the area said the bandits stormed the village at about 11pm and went to the house of their target without firing any gunshot.
He, however, said immediately after the attack, vigilance group operatives in the neighbouring villages were alerted and they blocked all the exit points.
According to him, “We blocked the exit of Karau Karau and Sako villages and later engaged the bandits in a gun duel, as they started firing at us.
“We however succeeded in overpowering them and forced them to retreat and they ran into the bush. While escaping, the bandits abandoned one of the captives, a young girl.”
Giwa Local Government Area Chairman, Zubairu Alhassan Zico, while confirming the incident
said he had “a report of the attackers who invaded the resident of one Mallam Isa Umar who works in the Estate Department, Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnics Zaria and kidnapped four members of his family at about 11pm.”
Zico, who applauded the efforts of the vigilance group operatives, pledged that the council would enhance security surveillance in the area to rescue the victims.
He disclosed that security agents had been combing the bush in search of the victims.
Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, Mohammed Jalinge, could not be reached.
