Mark preaches peace at 75

…wants an end to Benue killings

Former President of the Senate, Senator David Mark has again called for peaceful coexistence between and among various religious and ethnic groups in the country, insisting that only a harmonious relationship can engender development.

Senator Mark, who shelved his 75th birthday celebration on account of the state of the nation, especially the deteriorating security situation, decried the recent killings in Otukpo and Apa local government areas and other parts of Benue State.

Senator Mark, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Paul Mumeh, therefore, urged relevant authorities to rise to their responsibilities.

He described the killing of defenseless citizens as senseless, pointing out that many people have been rendered homeless and helpless.

Senator Mark bemoaned the situation that has put paid to this year’s Easter celebration for the people.

He, therefore, pleaded with security operatives and relevant agencies of government to immediately wade into the matter and stop the killings.

The former Senate boss reminded perpetrators of the heinous crime to sheathe their swords and embrace peace, pointing out that the season of Easter calls for peace, reconciliation, forgiveness, and good neighbourliness.

Senator Mark enjoined any aggrieved person or group to seek redress through legitimate means; police, courts, traditional institutions, and even through the legislative houses, instead of resorting to self-help or taking the laws into their hands.
