Asake reveals why he loves singing in Yoruba

Singer Ahmed Oloade, better known as Asake, has stated why he sings primarily in his native Yoruba language.

The ‘Joha’ crooner explained that he sings primarily in his dialect because it is so important to him and because many people can understand it.

This was revealed by Asake in a recent interview, the Obafemi Awolowo University Graduate emphasised that knowing the language is not really necessary for listeners to enjoy the song.

“Yoruba is so important to me and there are a lot of people that understand it. And to me, the way I understand music is like it’s a feeling; sometimes you don’t even need to understand the language to enjoy the music.” he said.

According to Asake, the purpose of music is to foster a sense of spirituality and a sense of rhythm.
