The Presidential Election Petition Court has adjourned the pre-hearing of the petition filed by the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, against President-elect Bola Tinubu.
The adjournment was until Friday, May 19.
However, during the court proceedings, there was a clash between factions of Obi’s party, and Mr. Lamidi Apapa, a factional Chairman, was taken into protective custody by security operatives.
Apapa was mobbed by youths who were present at the court, as he attempted to address the media after the court session. However, the youths, calling themselves “Obidients,” pushed him away, claiming he had no right to speak for the party.
In the ensuing commotion, Apapa’s attire was torn, and his cap was snatched from his head. Security operatives had to intervene and took him into protective custody.
Earlier, Apapa had attempted to position himself as a representative of the party and take a seat reserved for dignitaries and petitioners.
However, he was blocked by party members, led by the LP’s National Youth Leader. Apapa eventually relocated to the line of chairs reserved for the public.
It is worth noting that Apapa is currently involved in a legal dispute with party executives who conducted the primary election that produced Obi as the party’s flag-bearer. He had previously instructed all the lawyers representing Obi to report to him for a briefing.
