How Emefiele was arrested at his Lagos home, flown to Abuja on private jet — Sowore

Contrary to the denial by the Department of State Service, the secret police knows the whereabouts of suspended Central Bank of Nigeria Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, radical politician and activist, Omoyele Sowore, has claimed.

Sowore, in a tweet from his official handle @YeleSowore2023 recounted how Emefiele was allegedly arrested in his Lagos home by DSS operatives and immediately flown to Abuja.

Sowore, who was the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress in the February 25, 2023 election, tweeted at on Saturday (today) at exactly 12:07pm.

“@GodwinIEmefiele has finally landed in Abuja after he was arrested at his Lagos home at 2am in the morning/ He was flown on a PJ from Lagos accompanied by a team of DSS men. Emefiele was tracked after he drove around Lagos purportedly in an attempt to flee Nigeria.”

Sowore’s tweet followed claims by DSS that Emefiele is not in their custody.

Emefiele became the first official of the former president Muhammadu Buhari administration to be suspended by President Bola Tinubu, who exactly on his 12th day in office, suspended the CBN boss “with immediate effect”.

Shortly after the announcement of Emefiele’s suspension, the apex bank boss was reportedly apprehended by the DSS.

While announcing Emefiele’s suspension on Friday night, the Director of Information in the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Willie Bassey, said the CBN Governor was undergoing investigation.

Bassey also cited the planned reforms in the financial sector of the nation’s economy as another reason for Emefiele’s suspension.

A statement signed on behalf of the SGF by Bassey, read, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has suspended the Central Bank Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, CFR, from office with immediate effect.

“This is sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy.

“Mr Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of investigation and the reforms.”
