Ahead of the June 13, 2023 inauguration of the 10th National Assembly, Senators-elect on the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party have thrown their weight behind Senator Godswill Akpabio’s bid for Senate Presidency.

Speaking with journalists weekend in Abuja, Senator-elect for Kano Central Senatorial District, Senator Rufai Hanga said Akpabio’s wealth of experience stood him out amongst others.

Senator Rufai Hanga, who is coming for the second term as a senator, advised Senator Abdulaziz Yari to jettison his ambition for justice, equity and fairness.

The NNPP senators said they also met with the senators from the South East and advised them to always work in unionism.

“You see, we senators -elect on the platform of NNPP have taken our decision to queue behind senator Godswill Akpabio. We took time to look at the people contesting for the Senate Presidency, we then come to the conclusion that Akpabio stand out among them.

“Now, the south South are united behind Akpabio, but our brothers from the South East are dragging themselves out , I asked them, what are you bringing to the table. I told my brother former Governor Umahi that you are a first timer Senator-elect, and you can not be Senate president. Today, I thank God that he listened to my voice, Umahi is now with Senator Akpabio.

“For my brother, senator Yari, I have also told him to Jettison his ambition in contesting for the Senate Presidency for justice equity and fairness. You can have number and two as Muslim and you as a Muslim fighting to be number three, haba. We need to be fair to others.

” Well, if they insist, we will get there and do the needful. Yari conviction that the north brought more votes for Mr president is not tenable by me because we are talking of fairness here .

“For senator Orji Kalu and others from the South East, if I am in their party, I will have ask them to me what they brought to the table that make them deserve the leadership of the Senate.”

Senator Rufai Hanga however appealed to his colleagues to support Senator Akpabio Senate Presidency for justice equity and fairness.
