Adamawa Police Recover Stolen ₦18m Toyota, Arrest Suspect In Kano

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man over the alleged theft of a 2016 Toyota Corolla Sport worth about ₦18 million, with the vehicle successfully recovered during a police operation.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, identifying the suspect as Mohammed Dan-Azumi, who was apprehended in Kano State.

According to the statement, the case began after the vehicle owner reported that he had handed over the car to the suspect for washing before it was allegedly taken away.

“The breakthrough followed a report lodged by the owner of the vehicle, who stated that he had entrusted his vehicle to Mohammed Dan-Azumi, 26, of Girei Local Government Area, for washing. The suspect allegedly absconded with the vehicle to an unknown destination.

Acting swiftly on the report, operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID), Yola, launched a coordinated, intelligence-led operation that led to the tracking and arrest of the suspect in Kano State. The stolen vehicle was successfully recovered”, the statement partly read.

The police said investigations into the matter are still ongoing, adding that the suspect will be charged to court once the investigation is completed.

The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa State, CP Kabiru Hassan, praised the investigating officers for their professionalism and commitment to the operation.

He also reaffirmed the command’s determination to tackle criminal activities and encouraged residents to continue providing timely and credible information to support police efforts.

Findings by journalists revealed that the suspect works as a cleaner at Girei Cottage Hospital, where the vehicle owner, a serving member of the National Youth Service Corps, is employed as a medical doctor.
