Ahmed Musa Retires From Super Eagles After 15 Years of Service

Nigeria’s football legend, Ahmed Musa, 33, has officially retired from international duty, bringing to a close a remarkable 15‑year career with the Super Eagles.

The announcement came on December 17, 2025, via Musa’s verified social media account, where he reflected on his journey representing Nigeria and expressed gratitude to fans, teammates, and coaches.

Musa made his debut for the Super Eagles at just 17 and went on to become Nigeria’s most capped player, recording 111 appearances in green and white.

His international career was marked by memorable performances, including two goals against Argentina at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil and another brace against Iceland at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, making him Nigeria’s highest goalscorer at the tournament.

He was also an integral part of the squad that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations, ending a two-decade wait for continental glory.

Over the years, Musa captained the team at various points and earned widespread respect for his leadership and professionalism both on and off the pitch.

Reflecting on his retirement, Musa said representing Nigeria “meant everything” to him and described his international career as an honour and a privilege.

The Super Eagles will now look to a new generation of players to carry forward the legacy of one of Nigeria’s greatest football icons.
