Fulham FC has officially named Super Eagles defender Calvin Chinedu Bassey as their Player of the Season for 2024–25.
In a decisive result announced on Friday, Bassey secured a commanding 39.6% of the vote, finishing ahead of teammate Alex Iwobi at 21.5%, with Antonee Robinson (19.9%), Bernd Leno (10.9%) and Saša Lukić (8.1%) rounding out the top five.
The 25-year-old centre-back featured in 37 matches across all competitions, logging over 3,200 minutes on the field, and contributing two vital goals during the campaign.
Notably, he delivered the winning strike against Nottingham Forest in February and opened the scoring from the back in Fulham’s FA Cup tie against Manchester United.
In his acceptance, Bassey expressed heartfelt thanks: “Thank you guys for voting me Player of the Season. I want to thank God… thanks to the coaching staff and the Manager for trusting me … Hopefully we can do amazing things next season,” as reported by All Nigeria Soccer.
Joining the Cottagers in July 2023 from Ajax on a four‑year deal, Bassey displayed striking improvement after his debut season where he finished second in the tally.
His stellar displays have not only anchored Fulham’s defence but also underscored his rising influence and versatility in the Premier League.
The recognition marks a milestone: he is the first African and first Nigerian to receive the honor in the club’s history.
