Insecurity: Govs Now Have No Excuse, FAAC Allocation Has Increased — Gov Sule

Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has said Nigeria’s governors no longer have excuses for failing to tackle insecurity, given the unprecedented revenue allocations now available to states.

Speaking on Monday, September 29, at the 2025 Northern Nigeria Investment and Industrialisation Summit in Abuja, Sule said monthly allocations have quadrupled under President Bola Tinubu’s reforms, giving states enough resources to address pressing challenges.

“For the first time in our history, all tiers of government are sharing more revenue than they ever imagined,” he said.

“Over ₦2.2 trillion was shared this month alone. When I became governor in 2019, we were sharing between ₦590 billion and ₦620 billion. Today, it is four times that amount.”

On September 17, the Federation Account Allocation Committee announced that ₦2.22 trillion was distributed among the three tiers of government for August, the highest ever disbursement.

Governor Sule argued that with such figures, states must take responsibility for their own security rather than shifting blame.

“Every state now has the resources to secure its people,” he said. “We should stop blaming anybody for our security. If we are blaming anybody, blame ourselves.”

The Nasarawa governor also called on northern leaders to focus on sectors where they have comparative advantage, such as mining, agriculture, and energy, which were the central themes of the summit.

He highlighted ongoing investments in Nasarawa, including a 3,000-metric-tonne solid mineral processing plant already in operation and another 6,000-tonne facility nearing completion.

Also, he confirmed oil reserves of up to seven million barrels and plans to expand rice farming in the state from 3,300 hectares to 8,000 hectares before the end of his tenure.

According to Sule, the reforms and revenues now present a rare opportunity to strengthen security and drive economic transformation at the state level.
