NCAA Sanctions Saudi Airlines, Imposes ₦6m Fine

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has fined Saudi Airlines ₦6 million for violating consumer protection regulations after the carrier failed to comply with regulatory directives on unresolved passenger complaints.

Announcing the sanction on Friday, June 26, 2026, the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, said the airline ignored the authority’s determinations despite being granted additional time to resolve the issues.

He said the NCAA had earlier intervened to prevent a disturbance involving the airline at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, before extending the deadline for it to address the pending complaints.

According to Achimugu, the airline’s continued non-compliance prompted the sanction under Part 19 of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Regulations, 2023.

He said the penalty is intended to enforce compliance and improve the airline’s operations in Nigeria, stressing that passengers travelling to and from the country deserve fair treatment and full protection of their rights.

Achimugu added that while the NCAA will continue to support airlines operating in Nigeria, it will not hesitate to sanction any carrier that violates consumer protection regulations.

The action follows the authority’s warning on September 19, 2025, when Saudi Airlines and Royal Air Maroc were cautioned over similar infractions and advised to comply with regulatory directives or face sanctions.
