Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated ₦1 billion to support victims of the recent flood disaster in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State.
The donation, made through her humanitarian initiative, the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), was announced on Tuesday during a condolence visit to the state.
According to a statement by her Senior Special Assistant on Media, Busola Kukoyi, via X, the First Lady presented a cheque and relief materials to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago at the Government House in Minna.
“First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has donated ₦1 billion to support victims of the recent flood in Mokwa, Niger State, through the Renewed Hope Initiative,” Kukoyi confirmed.
The First Lady’s intervention comes after torrential rains over the weekend triggered devastating floods, displacing hundreds of residents and submerging farmlands, homes, and critical infrastructure in Mokwa.
The floods also extended to parts of Kafin Koro and Paikoro Local Government Areas, while at least 18 communities in Lapai LGA were submerged.

Among the worst-hit communities are Dere, Eshi, Apataku, Tsakanabi, Kuchi Kakanda, Arah, Achiba, Rebba, Ebwa, Pele, Edda, Rigido, Gbami, Yawa, Baka, and Muye.
In response, the Niger State Government has reissued an evacuation advisory for residents of riverine areas.
Governor Bago’s media aide, Jonathan Vatsa, urged communities to relocate temporarily, stressing that the floods remain a significant threat as rainfall persists.
“While we understand the deep attachment of our people to their ancestral homes, relocation is critical to prevent further loss of lives and property,” Vatsa said in a statement.
The First Lady assured victims of continued federal support and called for community cooperation to minimize casualties.
