National Coordinator, National Think Tank Project, Nigeria, Prof. Steve Azaiki, has saluted Nigeria’s National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, describing him as “a patriot, reformer, and defender of Nigeria’s strategic future” as the security chief marks his birthday.
In a heartfelt tribute, Azaiki said Ribadu’s life embodies service, integrity and unwavering patriotism, noting that his contributions over the past two decades have significantly shaped Nigeria’s security architecture, institutional development and economic stability.
Azaiki recalled observing Ribadu’s work from afar for many years before finally collaborating with him on critical national assignments, particularly those involving oil production, oil theft, and the protection of national assets. These engagements, he said, revealed Ribadu’s unmatched dedication and humility.
Taking on Oil Theft With Strategic Precision
Azaiki praised Ribadu’s decisive leadership in tackling Nigeria’s crippling oil theft crisis, describing his role as both strategic and results-driven.
He noted that under Ribadu’s leadership, inter-agency collaboration improved, surveillance by security operatives strengthened, and national will deepened in confronting the criminal networks responsible for billions of dollars in losses through pipeline vandalism, illegal refining and maritime breaches.
According to Azaiki, Ribadu’s work has contributed significantly to restoring Nigeria’s oil production capacity, protecting national revenue and boosting investor confidence at a time when the economy depends heavily on petroleum earnings.
A Reform Legacy That Still Defines Nigeria
The professor also highlighted Ribadu’s groundbreaking legacy as the pioneer Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He said Ribadu’s courage and principled leadership during that era set a new benchmark for anti-corruption efforts in Nigeria and across Africa.

“His honesty and resolve inspired millions,” Azaiki noted, adding that Ribadu remains one of the most trusted public figures in Nigeria’s contemporary history.
Leadership Anchored in Integrity
Azaiki described Ribadu as a calm but firm leader whose approach to public service is rooted in a deep love for country. He said Ribadu’s conduct as NSA has shown that public office is a responsibility, not a privilege.
Birthday Wishes
The scholar congratulated the NSA warmly, praying that God grants him more wisdom, strength, health and fulfilment.
“Nigeria celebrates you today and honours your service always,” Azaiki declared.
The tribute reinforces Ribadu’s standing as one of Nigeria’s most influential public servants and a key figure in shaping the country’s strategic security priorities.
