Chief Government Ekpemupolo, widely known as Tompolo, has thrown his weight behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s potential re-election in 2027, asserting that a shift of power to the North would be “unfair” following former President Muhammadu Buhari’s two terms.
The former militant leader made his pronouncements during a live interview on Arise Television over the weekend, signaling a significant political endorsement.
Tompolo argued that President Tinubu should be granted the full eight years permitted by the constitution, stating, “We don’t want anybody to cause problems. He should be allowed to complete his two constitutional terms, then we will vote for another person to take over in 2031.”
He praised Tinubu’s experience and leadership, expressing confidence in his ability to “carry this country to a higher level.”
The Niger Delta chieftain revealed his intention to spearhead a nationwide campaign, including extensive outreach to northern states, to secure support for Tinubu’s second term.
“We will do our part, even go out of our boundary to the northern part of Nigeria to talk to our brothers and compatriots so that he will get a second tenure,” he affirmed.

He further claimed that traditional rulers across the Niger Delta region have already voiced their support for the president.
Addressing the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State, Tompolo expressed optimism that the rift between Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, would be resolved.
He characterized their relationship as “Oga and his boy,” suggesting that President Tinubu‘s intervention would ensure Fubara’s continued tenure.
“The duly elected governor of Rivers State is coming back. Our president is someone who has been protecting democracy for a very long time. There is no way he will truncate it,” he stated.
This declaration by Tompolo marks a significant political development, potentially shaping the landscape leading up to the 2027 elections.
The endorsement from such a prominent figure in the Niger Delta region could prove pivotal for Tinubu’s re-election aspirations.
