The University of Lagos (UNILAG) community is grieving the loss of Balogun Damilola, President of the Faculty of Education, whose life was cut short in a drowning incident.
Reports from social media indicate the tragedy happened on Saturday, the 20th of September, 2025, during a beach hangout in Lagos.
Eyewitnesses recounted that Damilola, fondly called Ayanfe Eledumare, was performing a backflip at the edge of the water while filming a video when a strong current pulled him under. Rescue attempts failed, and his remains were later recovered at Museyo Beach in Ibeju-Lekki, roughly two kilometres from where he went missing.
The shocking development has left students in deep sorrow. Many have taken to different platforms to honour his memory, describing him as a lively figure with strong leadership potential.
Damilola had only just stepped into his role as Faculty President, following a year as Vice President.
