The Chairman of the South-South Development Commission, Chibudom Nwuche, has called on politicians who claim to support President Bola Tinubu to focus on securing his re-election in their respective states ahead of the 2027 elections.
Nwuche made the remarks on Wednesday during a visit by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State. He urged politicians from other states to avoid interfering in Rivers State’s political affairs, emphasizing that politics in the state is largely local.
“Go back to your states and demonstrate your political strength. Leave Rivers State alone. Rivers State has its own peculiar political dynamics that outsiders may not fully understand. We are a political family. When a leader chooses a candidate, the least we can do is to show gratitude and work collectively as a team,” Nwuche said.
The former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives described Rivers politicians as a political family and stressed that support should be given to candidates endorsed by party leaders. He commended Wike for mobilising support for Tinubu during the 2023 presidential election, describing the President’s emergence as a blessing.

However, Nwuche expressed disappointment with Governor Siminalayi Fubara, saying that many stakeholders supported him solely on Wike’s recommendation. He also praised Wike for projects executed during his tenure as governor, adding, “No governor in Rivers has come close to the level of impact we have witnessed during your tenure as our governor. Therefore, wherever you go, there we shall go.”
Speaking earlier, Wike said the visit aimed to thank the people for their support in the 2023 elections and to further mobilise them ahead of the 2027 polls. He urged residents to continue supporting Tinubu.
