At least 15 children were killed in a tragic road accident on Sunday in Saminaka, Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The incident occurred around 1 pm when a J5 bus carrying 63 children, en route to celebrate the Muslim festival of Eid El-Maulud, collided with an oncoming articulated vehicle.
Corps Commander Kabiru Nadabo, the Kaduna State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the accident to Channels Television, stating that the driver of the bus lost control due to overspeeding, leading to the fatal collision.
“Fifteen children died instantly, while 48 others sustained varying degrees of injuries,” Nadabo said.
Emergency responders, including officials from the FRSC, Police, and the Kaduna State Traffic Laws Enforcement Authority (KASTLEA), quickly arrived at the scene. The injured were transported to the Comprehensive Hospital in Saminaka for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at Dabo Lere Memorial Hospital.
This tragic incident comes as a reminder of the dangers of overspeeding, especially on busy roads during festive seasons.
