Gunmen stormed a community meeting in Ogboji, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State on Monday evening, June 30, opening fire on attendees and killing at least 10 people, according to police authorities.
The attackers, who arrived in two sports utility vehicles, targeted a gathering reportedly involving indigenes of Ebonyi State.
Eyewitnesses said the assailants demanded the minutes of the meeting before unleashing gunfire on the group.
Although some reports claimed 19 people were killed, police confirmed 10 fatalities and nine others injured.
A disturbing video circulating on social media shows lifeless bodies scattered across the scene, with onlookers weeping in shock.

The motive for the attack remains unclear. While some locals speculated it may be linked to the outlawed sit-at-home directive, others hinted at possible internal disputes among the group.
In a statement issued Tuesday, July 1, the Anambra State Police Command condemned the violence and promised swift justice.
“The armed criminals came in two Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV) and attacked the gathering of a group unprovoked, shooting sporadically,” said Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.
“The victims were rushed to the hospital and regrettably, 10 people were confirmed dead. The bodies have been deposited in the morgue.”
Ikenga added that police officers, along with other security agencies, have taken control of the area and are pursuing leads to apprehend those responsible.
