20 Arrested Over Alleged UTME Computer Hack in Abuja

Security forces have apprehended 20 individuals suspected of compromising the integrity of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), in a major crackdown on examination malpractice.

The suspects were reportedly arrested in Abuja by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), following allegations of hacking into the computer-based testing system used by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

According to reports by Channels Television, the arrests are part of ongoing efforts by security agencies and JAMB to tighten surveillance and enforce stricter measures to curb digital fraud during the conduct of national examinations.

Details surrounding the exact method of the alleged hack have not yet been disclosed, but sources say investigations are ongoing and the suspects are currently in custody.

JAMB has yet to issue an official statement on the arrests, but the board has repeatedly warned against attempts to manipulate its examination system, vowing to prosecute offenders to the full extent of the law.

The 2025 UTME, which serves as the entry exam for prospective students into Nigerian tertiary institutions, has come under increased scrutiny in recent years as JAMB continues to enhance its digital infrastructure to combat malpractice.
