Former governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose may dump the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party soon over its choice of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, a Northerner as its presidential flagbearear in the 2023 general elections.
Strong indications of this emerged on Wednesday as Fayose expressed his support for a Southerner to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
Fayose is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party while Atiku — a Northerner — is the party’s presidential candidate.
The former Ekiti governor was one of the presidential aspirants of the PDP.
But Fayose in his tweet on Wednesday, insisted that it’s the turn of the South to produce a president for the country.
According to his tweet, “The PDP Constitution provides for a rotational Presidency. Section 3(c) provides that the Party shall pursue its aims & objectives by adhering to the policy of the rotation & zoning of Party & Public elective offices in pursuance of the principle of equity, justice and fairness.
“The current President of Nigeria is a 2-term Northern Presidency, thus implying that it MUST be a Southern Presidency in 2023 or NOTHING. Awa ‘South’ lo kan’.”
The former Ekiti governor, however, asked Nigerians to “await details soon.”
