The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has started distributing non-sensitive documents to all 13 local government areas in Nasarawa State ahead of the general elections in February.
Dr. Uthman Ajidagba, the resident electoral commissioner for Nasarawa State made this announcement on Tuesday in Lafia while inspecting the trucks used to transport the materials from the INEC state office.
He stated that the supplies were anticipated to reach the commission’s local government offices sufficiently early prior to the elections to lessen the workload of the commission before the election.
As the general election draws nearer, Dr. Uthman Ajidagba explained that the deployment of the nonsensitive materials, which is the second level, was done to allow for timely distribution to Registration Area Centres and Electoral Wards across the state. He also noted that INEC had intensified preparations to ensure a smooth process in all the polling places.
“The INEC material ready for distribution include mats, ballot boxes, voters cubicles, and election bags. We are undertaking the early distribution to reduce the workload of the commission in the state”, the commissioner said.
He noted that 9, 710 Permanent Voter Cards are yet to be collected in Nasarawa State, adding that the figure is out of the total number of 122,697 PVCs meant for distribution to eligible voters in the state for the 2023 General Election.
