…as placard-carrying supporters besiege Abuja home, ask him to declare interest now
Former President Goodluck Jonathan and some of his supporters are currently holding a meeting over the 2023 presidency.
Earlier, scores of placard-carrying supporters of the former president had stormed his Abuja home, demanding his immediate entry into next year’s contest for the nation’s presidency.
But Jonathan, whose name has continued to feature amongst those being tipped to succeed incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari, has yet to make any public statement on this speculation.
On Friday morning, Jonathan’s supporters stormed his Abuja residence with placards urging him to declare his interest in next year’s presidential poll.
The inscriptions on some of the placards and banners read, ‘Goodluck Jonathan must run for president 2023′, “Jonathan is our candidate’ and several others.
Recall that Jonathan became president in 2010 following the sudden death of President Umaru Musa Yar’adua. He contested the same office in 2011 and won the election, but lost his re-election bid in 2015 to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Constitutionally, Jonathan will spend only four more years if he contests and wins the 2023 polls.
