2027: ADC Faces Doom If It Doesn’t Field Peter Obi — Fayose

Former Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, has warned that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) risks political irrelevance in the 2027 elections if it fails to field Peter Obi as its presidential candidate.

Fayose made the comments in an interview with Arise News while discussing Nigeria’s opposition politics, the internal crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the rising influence of other political platforms.

He said Obi’s defection to the ADC is the sole factor giving the party traction, dismissing other figures, including Atiku Abubakar, as largely inconsequential.

“Are we saying ADC is not dominant? Recently, Obi moved there. And I’ve said it. Obi is the only life in ADC,” Fayose said.

When asked about other politicians associated with the party, he said, “I’m not saying they are not human beings, I’m saying they are largely spent forces.”

Fayose emphasised Obi’s political significance, saying the party’s fortunes are directly tied to him.

“Let Obi not go to ADC. Let Obi go to another party. Let’s say Obi is in Accord. Obi is the only traction. Obi is the only meaning, Obi is the only factor, Obi is the only person in ADC that matters,” he said.

He further warned that the ADC would be severely weakened without Obi, noting that the party’s relevance is entirely dependent on him.

“And if Obi had not gone to ADC, I’m not saying Obi will win this election. I’m not saying Obi will not win this election.

“But I’m telling you, even if you don’t feed Obi, if ADC fails to feed Obi, their case will be worse than their coming together,” Fayose said.
