ADC Denies Talks with Jonathan, Atiku, Obi, Kwankwaso

A faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has denied claims that it is courting former President Goodluck Jonathan, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, or New Nigeria Peoples Party leader Rabiu Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 general election.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday, January 8, 2026, the faction, led by National Chairman Nafiu Gombe, described the reports as false and misleading.

It insisted that no contact, discussion, or outreach has taken place with any of the named political figures.

The group said it is not engaged in negotiations, alliances, or recruitment efforts involving politicians from other parties.

Its focus, the statement added, is on strengthening the ADC’s internal structures and operating strictly in line with the party’s constitution, rather than pursuing high-profile defections or speculative alignments.

The faction emphasised that any decisions regarding membership, candidacy, or alliances would be made only through recognised party organs and established internal processes.

It urged the public to disregard unfounded speculation, noting that such narratives distract from efforts to build the ADC as an independent and credible political platform.

The denial comes amid growing political activity and speculation over opposition realignments as attention turns to the 2027 general election.
