The National Publicity Secretary of the Youth Party (YP), Ayodele Adio, has said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) can be defeated in the 2027 general elections if the opposition joins forces and presents a united front.
Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Thursday, December 11, Adio said the APC’s hold on power is far weaker than it appears and can be broken through strategic collaboration among opposition parties.
“The incumbent is very beatable; they are really standing on spaghetti legs. I’m saying this not because I’m sitting as an armchair analyst. I’m saying this as someone who contested elections very recently; who went from ward to ward, from local government, from polling unit to polling unit, engaging people,” Adio said.
He called on all political parties outside the APC to bury personal ambitions and work together to dislodge the ruling party.

“The truth is, there is too much competing interest across the board. I would like a situation where there is some sort of coming together of all the political parties in the opposition to put a challenge to the incumbent,” Adio said.
However, the Youth Party spokesman expressed doubts about whether a coalition could be achieved through existing platforms like the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing internal conflicts and zoning controversies as major obstacles.
“It is going to be a difficult conversation to have because of the internal wrangling in the People’s Democratic Party, and obviously, you know we always have to deal with the problem of zoning or not zoning; which region is this presidency going to be zoned to?” he said.
Despite the challenges, Adio remained optimistic that Nigerians are hungry for an alternative political direction. “I can tell you for a fact that the people [Nigerians] are desperate for an alternative system,” he stated.
