Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu has assured Nigerians that the police will conduct themselves professionally before, during and after the 2027 general elections, expressing confidence that the force will earn public commendation for its performance.
Disu said the Nigeria Police Force was reviewing its experiences from previous elections to address shortcomings and build on areas where it had performed well ahead of the forthcoming polls.
He gave the assurance while speaking to journalists after the launch of a book titled ‘The Origin of Women in Nigeria Police Force’, written by 96-year-old retired Deputy Commissioner of Police Dame Stella Okuyiga.
Okuyiga was among the first 20 female officers to join the Nigeria Police Force in 1955.
Speaking on preparations for the 2027 elections, Disu disclosed that the force had recently concluded a conference involving commissioners of police and other senior officers to assess its performance in recent electoral exercises.

“I want to let you know that we just finished a conference of all commissioners of police and other senior officers. We have had two or three elections recently, and you can see the police did very well, and we did too.”
He said the lessons drawn from the assessments would help the police improve their performance during the next general election.
“We have now brought all these experiences together, where we did well and where we did not do well, so that we can perform better in this big election that everybody is looking up to,” he added.
The IGP expressed confidence in the force’s ability to meet public expectations, promising that its conduct during the elections would make both the institution and Nigerians proud.
“I give you my word. Nigeria Police will do so well, and we will make Nigeria Police so proud, and we will make Nigerians proud,” he stated.
