Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has ruled out contesting for any elective position in the 2027 general elections.
El-Rufai made the disclosure in Kaduna on Wednesday while welcoming a group of defectors from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) into the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
He explained that his renewed participation in politics is not motivated by personal ambition but by a commitment to promoting credible leadership across the country.
The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory explained that his initial plan after leaving office in 2023 was to step away from partisan politics.
He, however, said unfolding national developments compelled him to return, stressing that his focus was now on mentoring young people, women, and reform-minded Nigerians to actively participate in governance.

“I am not contesting for anything. I don’t want to go to the Senate. I am not seeking any position.
“When I finished my tenure as governor, I intended to rest. But given the way things have turned out, I believe we must play our part to bring about better leadership. That is why we are back in politics,” he said.
He urged young people in Kaduna and across the country to take advantage of the ongoing voter registration exercise, noting that their participation was crucial to changing the political landscape.
