The Independent National Electoral Commission on Monday, August 19, officially commenced the Continuous Voter Registration exercise across the country.
The commission announced that registration will take place both online and physically, giving eligible Nigerians more options to participate in the process.
“In-person registration will take place at all its 37 state offices and 774 local government area offices nationwide, to ensure easy access for prospective voters,” INEC stated.
While the online pre-registration portal, www.cvr.inecnigeria.org, went live on Monday, the commission said physical registration would begin on August 25, 2025.
By 12:35 p.m. on the first day, INEC reported that visits to the portal had already reached 26,255. On its official X handle, the commission said,
“Hits on the Continuous Voter Registration portal (cvr.inecnigeria.org) climb to 26,255 as at 12.35 pm today, Monday 18th August 2025. Register Now.”

The exercise, according to INEC, is open to Nigerians who have turned 18 and have never registered before, as well as those wishing to update their details, transfer their voting location, or replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards.
“The CVR exercise is open to new voters aged 18 and above, those who wish to collect or transfer their Permanent Voter Cards, and individuals who need to replace lost or damaged PVCs,” the commission explained.
INEC further cautioned against multiple registrations, stressing that violators risk legal consequences.
Encouraging citizens to seize the opportunity, the commission urged the public to seek help via its dedicated call centre on 0700-CALL-INEC (0700-2255-4632) or use the short code 4632.
Reaffirming its position, INEC said it is committed to consolidating democracy and ensuring that every eligible Nigerian has the opportunity to register before the next general election.
