The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has set a target of nearly three million votes for President Bola Tinubu and its 2027 governorship candidate, Dr Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, following its defeat in the state during the 2023 presidential election.
Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, Director-General of the PBAT-KOH Campaign Council, announced the target at a press conference in Ikeja on Sunday, October 25, 2026, saying the party had strengthened its membership and was intensifying grassroots mobilisation.
In the 2023 presidential election, Labour Party candidate Peter Obi polled 582,454 votes in Lagos, beating Tinubu, who received 572,606, by 9,848 votes.
Obanikoro said the result prompted the APC to strengthen its electoral strategy. He put the party’s membership in Lagos at about one million and projected that a 70 to 80 per cent turnout could yield 800,000 votes.
He added that if participating members each mobilised another voter, the figure could reach 1.6 million before votes from other supporters were counted.
The campaign council plans to canvass support across communities statewide, with Obanikoro expressing confidence in victory for both candidates.

Despite Tinubu’s loss in the 2023 presidential contest, the APC retained the governorship. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu won re-election with 762,134 votes, defeating Labour Party challenger Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, who secured 312,329.
Obanikoro said Hamzat’s governorship manifesto would be unveiled on Friday, October 30, 2026, at the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, formerly the National Arts Theatre, in Iganmu, Lagos.
The event is scheduled for 3pm to 5pm, with guests expected from 11am. The presentation is expected to be broadcast on television and digital platforms.
He said the manifesto would detail plans for sustaining development, tackling existing challenges and expanding opportunities, with continuity and inclusive governance as central priorities.
The campaign has consulted traditional rulers, religious leaders, traders, young people, professionals, artisans and community representatives. Obanikoro said the document would be published online after its unveiling for public review and feedback.
He also cited Hamzat’s academic and professional credentials. The deputy governor, in office since May 29, 2019, holds a PhD in Systems Process Engineering from Cranfield University in England and previously worked at Merrill Lynch and Morgan Stanley.
The manifesto launch will set out Hamzat’s proposed policy direction as the APC prepares for the 2027 governorship election.
