2027: Makinde, Obi Hold Closed-Door Political Talks In Ibadan

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, held a closed-door meeting with former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, at the Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.

Obi arrived with a small delegation and was received into private talks with the governor, in an engagement that lasted for an extended period and was not opened to the press.

The meeting comes amid growing political consultations among opposition figures and stakeholders ahead of the 2027 general elections, following a recent coalition-oriented gathering held in Ibadan that attracted key political actors exploring potential alignments.

Although full details were not made public, Obi said after the meeting that the visit was part of ongoing engagements with leaders across the country on Nigeria’s political future.

He explained that discussions around a proposed coalition are focused on strengthening governance, promoting competence in leadership, and creating broader opportunities for citizens.

Obi also noted that a central goal of the ongoing consultations is to reposition the economy from consumption-driven dependence to a more productive system anchored on industrial growth and value creation.

The Ibadan meeting adds to a series of behind-the-scenes political engagements involving Obi and other key figures, as early realignments continue to take shape ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
